Easy Reader and the Los Angeles Register Launch Two New Local Newspapers Each Serving Four Communities in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Register today launched two new monthly community newspapers with Easy Reader, as part of a larger expansion plan to introduce more than a dozen new community newspapers in the coming weeks. The expansion also includes the April 16 launch of Los Angeles Register, a locally focused, community-building daily newspaper serving Los Angeles County. The newspapers will run under the Easy Reader masthead as editions of the Register.

The first is a northern coastal edition that serves Playa del Rey, Marina del Rey, Playa Vista and Venice communities, and is delivered to 23,000 homes. The second serves Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Malibu and Venice communities, and is delivered to 58,000 homes. Both will be available within the Los Angeles Register when home-delivery subscription service becomes available following the daily newspaper's April 16 soft launch.

The new Easy Reader editions provide readers with in-depth community news, town-by-town pages and original reporting about interesting people, businesses, events, government and politics, arts and entertainment, schools, prep sports, pets, family life, health, voices (opinion), charities and places of worship. It also includes puzzles, service directories, and listings for real estate, obituaries and legal advertising.

Freedom Communications and Easy Reader, Inc. signed a comprehensive, long-term management agreement in January in which Freedom assumed management responsibilities for all aspects of the Easy Reader business. The original Easy Reader debuted in 1970, and expanded to include sister publications: Beach, Peninsula People and Drop Zone. The original Easy Reader is a weekly publication serving Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach communities.

On Feb. 27, Easy Reader and the Register enhanced the paper’s design and expanded from a tabloid to a larger broadsheet format. Easy Reader also publishes two editions each month that serve Palos Verdes and El Segundo, respectively, and both editions also are expanding to the broadsheet format. Over the coming weeks, the Los Angeles Register will be introducing additional community newspapers serving towns throughout Los Angeles County including in the San Fernando Valley and Pasadena.
