By: (AP) Tom Stewart, editor of the Tribune-Review of Greensburg, Pa., since 1997, is leaving to go to graduate school.

Stewart first joined the newspaper as a part-time reporter in 1975, just days before he graduated from Penn State. He has been a reporter, copy editor, Sunday feature editor, news editor, and Sunday editor at billionaire publisher Richard Mellon Scaife's Westmoreland County-based newspaper.

"I'm very fortunate to be in a position where I can explore a career change like this and still take care of my family," said Stewart, who lives with his wife and two children in Hempfield Township.

Stewart said he may teach or go back into journalism after graduate school.

Ed Harrell, president of the Tribune-Review Publishing Co., said Stewart will be missed.

"He is and has always been one of the hardest-working editors in the newspaper business," Harrell said.
