By: Joe Strupp Editor Ron Royhab is leaving The Blade of Toledo, Ohio, after 16 years as its newsroom leader, according to Joe Zerbey, the paper's president and general manager.

At 67, Royhab had asked to retire, Zerbey said. "We are going to miss him, he has been a big asset to the paper."

Zerbey said no replacement has been named. Royhab could not immediately be reached for comment. His last day is Dec. 18.

Editorial Director Dave Shutt is also leaving, Zerbey said.

In addition, the paper is instituting a one-week mandatory furlough for all managers. Zerbey said some 50 supervisors will have to take the unpaid time off between Oct. 1 and March 30: "It is something that is one way to save more and not institute a permanent wage cut."

Among the possible candidates to succeed Royhab are Special Assignment Editor Dave Murray and Managing Editor Kurt Franck.
