Editorial Cartoonist Luckovich to Keynote MFM/BCCA and INFE Conference

By: E&P Staff Syndicated cartoonist Mike Luckovich will be the opening keynote speaker for "Responding to Change," the 2009 annual conference for the Media Financial Management Association (MFM), and the Interactive & Newsmedia Financial Executives (INFE).

The conference, which will bring together the members of INFE, MFM and MFM?s subsidiary, BCCA, will be held at The Westin Peachtree Plaza, in Atlanta, Ga., from May 12 to 14, 2009.

Luckovich?s presentation is scheduled for the conference?s opening general session, and will begin at 8:30 a.m. on May 12.

?Mike Luckovich is the perfect person to kick off our conference,? Mary M. Collins, MFM?s President & CEO, said in a statement. ?As we explore how media companies can make the most out of the economic and technological changes shaping our industry, who better to get us started than someone who tracks the subject on a daily basis? Mike?s thought-provoking editorial cartoons have been documenting political change and its impact on our country through four U.S. Presidents.?

Editorial cartoonist for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution since 1989, Luckovich is syndicated in 350 daily newspapers. His work has earned numerous national and international awards including, most recently, the 2006 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning and the 2006 Reuben award at the National Cartoonists Society for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year. He received his first Pulitzer in 1995 and was a runner-up for the 1987 Award. He also won the Overseas Press Club's award for the Best Cartoons on Foreign Affairs, in 1989, and was awarded the National Headliners award for editorial cartoonists. Locally, he received the 2008 Brooke Baker Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Dunwoody Library.

Luckovich continues a lifetime of achievement as the editorial cartoonist for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC), a position he has held since 1989. His work also appears in more than 150 newspapers served by the Creators Syndicate, including The Washington Post, The San Diego Union-Tribune, The Denver Post, Newsday, New York Post, The Cleveland Plain-Dealer, The Dallas Morning News, the Boston Globe, the Seattle Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Nashville Tennessean and the Houston Chronicle, and are reprinted regularly in Time, Newsweek and the New York Times.

The 2009 annual conference for MFM/BCCA and INFE marks the first time that the events will be co-located. The organizations jointly will hold general sessions, special events and co-host the Exhibit Hall while offering breakout sessions targeted to the needs and interests of their respective members.
