Editorial Cartoonists Nominate Officers

By: Dave Astor Association of American Editorial Cartoonists members nominated a number of artists for the 2004-5 AAEC board that will be headed by Matt Davies of The Journal News in White Plains, N.Y., and Tribune Media Services.

Nominated for president-elect was current vice president Clay Bennett of The Christian Science Monitor and Christian Science Monitor News Service in Boston; for vice president, Rob Rogers of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and United Media; and for reelection as secretary-treasurer, V. Cullum Rogers of The Independent Weekly in Durham, N.C.

Running for three director slots are freelance cartoonist Chip Beck, John Cole of the Durham (N.C.) Herald-Sun, Glenn McCoy of the Belleville (Ill.) News-Democrat, Jeff Parker of Florida Today in Melbourne, and Mikhaela Reid of the Boston Phoenix.

Davies, the current AAEC president-elect and winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning, will succeed Mike Ritter as president after AAEC members vote on the new board. Ritter is with the Tribune Newspapers in Arizona and King Features Syndicate.
