By: E&P staff Edward A. Nichols Jr. has been appointed publisher of the Southwest Daily News, The Vinton (La.) News, and The Fort Polk (La.) Guardian, the Daily News of Sulphur, La., reported Tuesday.
Nichols succeeds Lewis Cain, who recently stepped down after serving as publisher for 25 years.
Nichols has been in the newspaper business for nearly 30 years, having published newspapers in Florida, Pennsylvania, California, Mississippi, and Texas. He has worked for the New York Times Regional Newspaper Groups, and was once a partial owner of a newspaper in Florida. Nichols most recently served as vice president and publisher of The Daily Press of Victorville, Calif.
The Southwest Daily News, The Vinton News, and The Fort Polk Guardian are all publications of the Chicago-based Gatehouse Media, Inc., which publishes over 400 newspapers worldwide.
