By: E&P Staff El Comercio, the largest newspaper in Peru, is installing QuadTech's ICON automated press controls in its new press, the Sussex, Wis., company announced.

Lima-based El Comercio is installing the technology on a MAN Roland 48-page Lithoman press, primarily for its commercial customers. ICON includes the Color Control System, Register Guidance System with MultiCam, and Ribbon Control System with MultiCam.

"The group El Comercio, publisher of the newspaper titles El Comercio, Trome, Peru.21, Gestion y Depor, with a market share of 65% in readership between all its products, made the decision to acquire a new MAN Roland 48-page Lithoman web press for our commercial plant -- where magazines, books and inserts are printed in high quality paper substrates -- with the aim of doubling our current production, which reaches 20,000 tons of paper per year due to the growing demand for our products," El Comercio Plan Manager Ignacio Prado said in a statement.

Prado noted that its current Heidelberg M600 presses came with QuadTech auxiliaries.

QuadTech is a subsidiary of Quad/Graphics, the big privately held printer.

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
