By: E&P Staff The former accountant for The Marcellus (Mich.) News has been charged with tapping into the 1,600-circulation weekly?s bank account to electronically pay his July home mortgage payment.
When he was arrested last Friday, Allen Fisk, 45, was already out on bond and awaiting a September trial on charges of embezzling $1,000 to $20,000 from the Trinity Bible Church in Marcellus. Fisk, who is a former village president of Marcellus, has also been indicted on federal charges of attempting to defraud the Internal Revenue Service and 10 private taxpayers.
Fisk had been an accountant at the weekly newspaper until May, when he was arraigned on the earlier charges. According to accounts in the Dowagiac (Mich.) Daily News and the Kalamazoo Gazette, Fisk accessed the Marcellus News bank account to make the mortgage payment of $925.36 in mid-July.
Cass County (Mich.) Prosecutor Victor A. Fitz said he was seeking to revoke Fisk's bond in light of the new charges, according to the published reports.
