By: E&P Staff Enfocus in Gent, Belgium, and Alwan Color Expertise, Lyon, France, have joined in developing Alwan PDF Standardizer to bring simple, reliable PDF standardization and quality control to the graphic arts.

"This joint effort provides a missing link between our respective offerings," Enfocus Senior Vice President Peter Camps said in a statement. "With PDF Standardizer, publishers, agencies and other content creators can produce predictable, problem-free PDFs, and print service providers can more easily preflight and normalize source PDFs before placing them into production."

In addition to leveraging the automation and advanced preflighting capabilities of Enfocus PitStop and Enfocus Switch, PDF Standardizer also provides out-of-the-box compliance with ISO 12647 and 15930 color requirements. It offers dynamic color management, flattening of transparencies, and normalization of PDF files. In addition, PDF Standardizer integrates with any existing workflow.

Alwan PDF Standardizer will be available in January 2009, through both Enfocus and Alwan's distribution channels.

What can a self-driving car teach news publishers about AI? Quite a lot, according to Guy Tasaka. How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
