By: Greg Mitchell E&P announced today the winners in its 9th annual Newspaper Photos of the Year competition. The grand prizerwinner is freelancer Shiho Fukada, who is based in New York City and China, for her remarkable series of photographs following last spring's tragic earthquake in China.
She earns a $1000 prize and a professional camera.
E&P also picked 16 other winners in four categories (breaking news, features, sports and photo essays) and four circulation classes, as well as naming a dozen honorable mentions.
All of the winners and all of the winning pictures are posted in a special gallery that you can access at the link below or via the bottom on our home page at the bottom of the More Headlines section on the left side.
The gallery also offers an interview with winning photographer Fukada, who has often worked for the Times (including election campaign coverage this year) and other newspapers and top magazines and TV networks.
You can also read an interview with Fukada and see the photos in our new November print issue.
