'E&P' Audio/Podcast: Will Newspaper Bloggers Take Center Stage in 2008 Election?

Posted
By: E&P Staff In this week?s audio/podcast, E&P Editor Greg Mitchell chats with Joe Strupp about the expanding role of newspaper blogs in the 2008 election campaign. It is the subject of a cover story that he is writing for the December issue of E&P.

While independent political blogs played a role in the 2004 and 2006 elections, what?s different now is that many newspapers, large and small, have hired their own campaign bloggers, or assigned their political reporters to blog -- fulltime -- for their Web sites. "The Fix" is in at The Washington Post and there's a "Caucus" at The New York Times, but even less powerful papers are getting into the act.

In the audio, Strupp offers an overview of who is blogging, and why, the reaction of candidates -- and how their campaign staffers try to "spin" the bloggers -- and how it all fits into the new world of 24/7 news coverage.
