By: E&P Staff Farm Journal took home the top prize Thursday in the 52nd annual Jesse H. Neal Awards, the most prestigious honors in national business journalism. Earning the most awards were Editor & Publisher, Advertising Age, IEEE Spectrum and CSO, which each took home two awards.

The awards were announced at a luncheon ceremony attended by more than 500 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York.

The "Grand Neal" went to Farm Journal, edging out two entries from IEEE Spectrum.

The Neal Awards are sponsored by American Business Media which is marking its 100th anniversary this year. It said there were more than 1,200 entries for this year's awards.

E&P has now won nine Neal Awards in the past four years, more than any other publication (except one) during this period. This year it won for its editorials, written by editor-at-large Mark Fitzgerald, for the fourth consecutive year and five of the past six.

Its winner in the best series of articles category was comprised of four articles on the newspaper circulation crisis, and steps to control it, all written by associate editor Jennifer Saba in 2005.

E&P had a total of five finalists, the second most for any publication in recent years. Other finalists were for best news coverage (for continuing articles on the Iraq war), best series (four articles on journalists in Iraq written by Joe Strupp, Allan Wolper and Barbara Bedway) and for best single issue (Dec. 2004).

Presenters at the luncheon were Diana Henriques, the The New York Times' financial reporter, and Aric Press, editor-in-chief of American Lawyer. Marshall Loeb presented the Grand Neal.
