By: E&P Staff Essex Products Group, Centerbrook, Conn., has added the KeyColor T to its line of remote ink-control systems. The compact KeyColor T provides touch-screen control of fountain ink keys for web or sheetfed applications. Press operators can quickly adjust ink settings from a central ink desk to speed makeready and reduce waste.
When combined with AutoSet presetting software, the KeyColor T system enables digital data from an image- or plate-setting system to preset all ink keys for even faster makeready. The KeyColor T also can interface with color-measuring devices to provide closed-loop color solutions.
"Limited installation space is no longer an obstacle when selecting a remote ink-control system," EPG President Peter Griffin said in a statement.
Using a menu-driven, Windows-style display, operators can quickly access all functions through drop-down menus. Simplified controls assure ease of operation and reliability. KeyColor T systems can store thousands of jobs on an internal hard drive for rapid makeready of repeat work.
On multi-web presses, multiple KeyColor T Ink desks enable several operators to set color simultaneously. Networking allows any fountain to be controlled from any desk. A single desk can then be used to maintain color through the run.
KeyColor T systems incorporate gasket-sealed "Smart Fountain" technology that can be rapidly mounted on a press. EPG ink keys can control solid or segmented blades, as well as sliding blocks. One six-wire cable connects the ink desk to the fountain. A modem allows EPG engineers to dial into a system to upgrade software and provide online support.
