'Eureka Reporter' to Fold This Weekend

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Eureka (Calif.) Reporter will produce its last newspaper this Saturday. After Nov. 8, the five-year-old daily will shut down permanently, according to report by the paper today.

Established in 2003, the young daily has been truly local, from its news coverage to its ownership, yet, in only five years, the Reporter has gained broader recognition. The Reporter has earned 16 state and national awards for outstanding reporting, photography, layout, ad design, and printing. Organizations honoring the newspaper include the California Newspaper Publisher?s Association and the Association of Free Community Papers.

?Whether it?s health, education, youth, crime, or sports ? this was a true community newspaper, owned and operated by someone from this community who cared about it,? reporter Carol Harrison said in the story. ?It?s a loss, but I can?t say I?m surprised. I?m proud to have been part of it.?

The Reporter will continue to publish its editorial pages in the community?s other newspaper, the Times-Standard, on Wednesdays and Sundays.
