In July of 2012 internet entrepreneur Aaron Kushner* acquired Freedom Communications, owner of the Orange County Register newspaper.
Kushner’s acquisition signaled his belief that the death of newspapers was greatly exaggerated. More recently, Kushner rolled out the Long Beach Register to compete with the established Press-Telegram, and then just last April he launched the Los Angeles Register to compete with the globally prominent Los Angeles Times. So far these investments haven’t worked out very well.
