Ex-Editor Of Dayton 'Daily News' Dies At 74

By: Joe Fenley, who led the Dayton Daily News when the city's newspapers merged in 1986, has died at age 74, his daughter said Wednesday.

Elizabeth Smith said her father died Tuesday at the Dayton Veterans Administration Medical Center. He had suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Fenley became managing editor in 1976 of the Daily News, which merged with the Dayton Journal Herald. He first joined the newspaper in 1963 and retired in 1988. Fenley also worked for Industry Week business magazine.

He is survived by his wife, Ann, and son, Brian, both of Dayton; and Smith, of Englewood.

The funeral will be Friday at Precious Blood Catholic Church.
