By: Jennifer Saba More people visited NYTimes.com than any other newspaper Web site in October, according to new data released by Nielsen Online (owned by E&P's parent company) -- and that traffic surged in October.
NYTimes.com had more than 17.5 million unique monthly visitors, up from 14.6 million in September.
This month, the usual suspects make the lists with a few notable standouts: The recently-launched D.C. newspaper Politico makes the cut in October with 1.6 million uniques.
The San Diego Union-Tribune shot up the list in October with 2.2 million uniques compared with 1.5 million in September - most likely due to its coverage of the wild fires.
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer overtook its sister publication the Seattle Times in October with 2.1 million unique visitors. The Seattle Times had 1.9 million uniques.
AZcentral.com, the Web site for The Arizona Republic in Phoenix, got the nod for most time spent (in the top 30). The average time spent per person for the month was about 39 minutes. The New York Times was next with about 34 minutes per person, and the Star Tribune in Minneapolis placed third with roughly 27 minutes per person.
