By: E&P Staff "Chester Commodore, 1914-2004: The Work and Life of a Pioneer Cartoonist of Color" is opening this Saturday.
The free exhibit -- which includes more than 125 original cartoons, photos, letters, awards, and other items -- will run through Dec. 31 at the Carter G. Woodson Regional Library in Chicago.
An opening program this Saturday afternoon will feature family, friends, and colleagues of Commodore. Among the scheduled speakers is Tim Jackson, who does editorial cartoons for the Chicago Defender -- where Commodore worked from 1954 to 2004.
The opening program and start of the show were postponed from last month due to exhibit-preparation delays.
The Chicago Public Library acquired the Chester Commodore Papers last summer as a gift from the late cartoonist's stepdaughter and family.
