By: E&P Staff An "encore edition" of "The Far Side Off-The-Wall Calendar," covering the year 2007, will be released starting next summer by Andrews McMeel Publishing.
All royalties earned from the calendar by "The Far Side" creator Gary Larson will be donated to wildlife and habitat-preservation organizations, according to AMP President/CEO Thomas Thornton, who estimated that the contributions will "exceed seven figures."
The 2007 calendar will feature 365 cartoons published in the 2001 edition. Larson's "final" day-by-day calendar was for the year 2002, though AMP has continued to publish "Far Side" calendars in desk, wall, and "mini-wall" versions. More than 40 million "Far Side" day-by-day calendars were sold between 1985 and 2002.
"I hadn?t planned on re-launching the 'Off-The-Wall' calendar, but I had been thinking over the past few years about how far I had been taken in my career on the backs of many animals, and maybe it?s finally time for me to give something in return," said Larson, who has been involved with several wildlife and habitat-preservation causes from his home state of Washington to the forests of Siberia.
"The Far Side" was running in more than 1,900 newspapers when Larson ended the comic in 1995.
