'FBorFW' Cartoonist Gives Canadian Paper a Very Candid Interview

Posted
By: Dave Astor A story containing previously unreported details about the demise of "For Better or For Worse" cartoonist Lynn Johnston's marriage includes this paragraph:

"When it came to finances ... she had entrusted everything to her husband and was shocked to discover, in the days following his departure, that her bank accounts were empty. Suddenly, the cartoonist whose strip appears in more than 2,000 newspapers around the world, the Gemini Award winner and Pulitzer Prize nominee, and the first female to ever win the prestigious Reuben Award from the U.S.-based National Cartoonists Society, didn't have enough cash to buy groceries."

The story about the Canadian cartoonist -- whose husband of three decades suddenly left her for another woman last year -- is in Canada's Peterborough Examiner.

It was posted on the Examiner Web site less than three weeks after Johnston put her 1979-launched Universal Press Syndicate strip into "new-runs" that restarted the comic from the beginning with a mix of old and new content drawn in the old "FBorFW" style.

In the article, Johnston also discusses how she began to heal from the marriage breakup with the help of her two children, girlfriends, and doing paintings.

The Examiner story -- which was linked to today by Daily Cartoonist blogger Alan Gardner -- can be seen here.
