Federal judge again blocks Trump’s ban on CNN, MS NOW and POLITICO

The ruling will allow the outlets to enter the White House grounds while they sue to overturn the ban. But it doesn’t resolve all of their access problems.

A federal judge on Tuesday again blocked President Trump’s attempt to bar CNN, MS NOW and POLITICO from the White House, ensuring the outlets will have access to the complex as their legal quest to overturn the ban continues.

Judge Timothy J. Kelly of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia concluded that the three news outlets had made strong arguments that the White House’s action had violated their First Amendment rights and their rights to due process.

Mr. Trump declared the ban in a Sept. 18 social media post, and journalists from CNN, MS NOW and POLITICO were stopped from entering the White House the next day. The companies promptly sued to regain access, and Judge Kelly blocked the White House action with a temporary order that had been due to expire on Wednesday.
