Few Papers Pulling Dec. 2 Comic With 'Bite Me' Phrase

By: E&P Staff Are newspapers finally getting more comfortable with mildly profane language on their comics pages?

Earlier this month, United Media sent an advisory to the approximately 350 "Pearls Before Swine" clients asking if they wanted a replacement for the Dec. 2 strip that will include the words "bite me." Only two newspapers requested a substitute comic for this Saturday, reported the syndicate when contacted today by E&P.

Stephan Pastis' "Pearls Before Swine" stars a nasty rat, a gentle pig, and some hungry crocodiles who want to eat their zebra neighbor.
