Film That Backs Clinton, Attacks Press, Postponed Due to Reagan Death

By: E & P Staff The death of Ronald Reagan has pushed back one week the New York premiere of the new pro-Clinton documentary "The Hunting of the President." It also gives the press another week to brace for the film's promised attack on how it allegedly bought into the Republican agenda in unfairly (it charges) covering the Democratic president.

The film, by Clinton crony Harry Thomason, was to debut at a screening and party Wednesday night in New York, with the ex-President possibly attending. Thomason has said that the movie lacerates the press for focusing on Whitewater and other side issues. "I think it's a cautionary tale to the press," he recently told Newsweek.

Thomason has also claimed that 137 "people on the right" refused to be interviewed for the film. One exception: Rev. Jerry Falwell.

Paul Colichman, chairman of Regent Entertainment, said it might seem "inappropriate" to have the screening and party this week in light of the Reagan funeral. The premiere has been pushed back to June 16, with its opening two days later and then around the country in late-June and July. The controversial Michael Moore movie "Fahreneheit 911" opens June 25.

"The Hunting of the President" is based on the book of the same title by Joe Conason an Gene Lyons.
