By: E&P Staff As we noted Friday, in presenting our annual, fairly reliable, preview of finalists for a Pulitzer Prize in a dozen categories, journalists are the biggest leakers of them all.
No matter what the Pulitzer committee does, jurists, we hear, just about jump out of the meeting rooms in New York City after the selections are made, and whip out a cell phone on the way to their cabs, to call their friends. And so, within hours, it is possible to put together a credible list of finalists (pending switches when the board meets in several weeks). Every year we caution that our list may not be correct, and every year it proves remarkably accurate, with rare exception.
So, with that lack of certainty in mind, here are two categories we didn't have until now, for photography. The list leaked last week is re-posted below, following the two new categories:
FEATURE PHOTOGRAPHY
Los Angeles Times (haggard soldier with cigarette)
Minneapolis Star Tribune (wounded woman soldier)
San Francisco Chronicle (badly wounded Iraqi kid saved by U.S. doctors)
BREAKING NEWS PHOTOGRAPHY
Reuters (tsunami disaster)
Associated Press (Fallujah, bodies hanging from bridge)
The Palm Beach Post (hurricane disaster)
