By: E&P Staff The Financial Times has launched a free iPhone application compatible with OS 3.0 and iPod touch models. The app provides news, global market data and a currency converter. Articles are automatically cached, allowing users to read even if they are offline.

"The FT's new iPhone app is part of our overall goal of making sure our users get the best possible FT experience on any device," Stephen Pinches, FT.com lead product manager, said in a statement. "Combining the FT.com access model with a great platform for our premium advertisers means we will instantly see a financial return on the investment."

Siemens has signed on to be the sole advertiser on the app for one month in the United Kingdom. In addition, the FT said that advertisements can be geo-tagged by country.

The FT also has a mobile Web site.
