By: E&P Staff Finnish newspaper publishers Alma Media, Lehtisep?t Oy (part of the Keskisuomalainen Group), and I-Print Oy (part of Ilkka-yhtym?) reached agreement to jointly purchase the most important printing materials, initially to include paper, ink and printing plates.

Announcing the agreement, Alma Media said it spends 20 million euros annually on such materials.

"The importance of cooperation between newspaper publishers is increasing amidst the revolution of the media business," Helvi Liukkaala, director of Aamulehti's newspaper printing and head of Alma Media's printing chain said in a statement. "Our goal is to make the purchase processes more efficient and further raise the quality of the materials." She added that the cooperative arrangement also may aid in development of materials made in Finland, such as newsprint and printing inks.

Last month. Alma Media announced a reorganization of its printing and distribution. To take effect in January, it will combine the operations into a group-level unit and will affect its three newspaper printing sites and the early-morning delivery company Aamujakelu Oy.
