By: E&P Staff The Ilkka-Yhtyma Group, Seinajoki, Finland, has purchased a Goss Colorliner four-high tower in order to increase color, quality and press flexibility on its Newsliner press.
I-print Oy, the Finnish publisher's print division, can currently produce two consecutive 32-page broadsheet publications directly into distribution with its shaftless Newsliner, which went into production in 1999. The press also can produce 48- and 64-page publications, but with less efficiency, according to Goss.
The publisher considered extending the press or adding new mailroom equipment. The tower it chose to add, due to go into operation in the summer, will increase total capacity to 80 broadsheet or 160 tabloid pages, with the ability to run 32- and 48-page products side by side.
Ilkka-Yhtyma publishes the dalies Ilkka (circulation 55,363) and Pohjalainen circulation 31,561) and a number of weeklies.
In other Goss news, the press manufacturer is looking for new ways to help clients boost revenues. The GossRSVP program, which began testing at several New Hampshire dailies last month, involves placing a GossRSVP logo in newspaper print ads, along with a two-dimensional bar code and number sequence. Readers with certain cell phones can scan the code or, alternatively, send a text message with the number code, for which they receive a coupon seconds later. The response information, which is managed by the GossRSVP server, offers newspapers response-rate feedback. Revenues would be generated by charging an initial advertiser sign-up fee for the program and a per-click charge.
Goss said it plans to expand the program with more revenue-enhancing features, such as ongoing reward and loyalty programs for consumers.
