Fire Forces Newton Daily to Move Printing

Posted
By: A fire at the Newton Daily News has forced the newspaper to be printed in Creston, more than 100 miles away.

A small fire broke out Tuesday morning in the newspaper's pressroom when the press motor overheated while printing Tuesday's edition.

Pressman Mike Lisk put out the fire with an extiguisher while other employees evacuated the building.

Officials say the pressroom filled with smoke but no other damage, or injuries, were reported.

The newspaper will be published for at least next couple of days at the Creston News Advertiser in Creston, which is about 110 miles southwest of Newton.

Both papers are owned by Shaw Newspapers.
