Firefighters Who Botched Rosenbaum Call Face Dismissal

Posted
By: Joe Strupp Washington, D.C. Fire Chief Adrian H. Thompson is seeking to remove four firefighters from their jobs for "botching the response to the fatal robbery of retired New York Times reporter David E. Rosenbaum," The Washington Post reported today.

The firefighters were among emergency workers who "failed to realize that Rosenbaum, 63, had been beaten in a robbery Jan. 6... near his home," the Post reported. Instead, the paper said, he was assumed to be drunk and deemed a "low priority," according to a government source.

The chief has also started dismissal procedures against an emergency medical technician, the paper wrote, adding that some 10 firefighters and emergency medical workers face disciplinary action in Rosenbaum's case, according to government sources.

The discipline moves followed the recent release of a critical D.C. Inspector General's report that found massive mistakes by police, firefighters, EMS workers and hospital staffers involved in treating Rosenbaum. The Post added that the chief was "moving to oust two other firefighters who allegedly missed a call while taking a nap in their vehicle early Monday. The firefighters were snoozing after parking in a lot," the paper reported.
