By: The New York Times, in the new FAS-FAX report from the Audit Bureau of Circulations, fell below one million daily circulation for the first time in decades.
The paper lost about 72,000 copies, down to 927,861, for the six months ending Sept. 30, compared to the previous year's period. The Sunday drop was about 38,000, to 1,400.307.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported this morning that daily circulation (Monday-Friday) for the six-month period ending September 2009 fell 12% year-over-year to 275,641.
Sunday circulation declined 1.8% to 251,260. The paper instituted a price increase from 50 cents to 75 throwing off single-copy sales. Home-delivered copies, however, grew 5.5%.
James Tyree and a group of local investors are expected to take control of the Sun-Times Media Group today.
