First Goss Uniliner in the U.K.

Posted
By: E&P Staff England's Newbury Weekly News Group, a family-owned publisher and contract printer, placed an order with Goss International for a doublewidth Goss Uniliner press, which will almost double the printing capacity at the company's headquarters. It also will be the first Uniliner in the United Kingdom.

The group prints 30 contract titles in addition to its own publications -- Newbury Weekly News, The Advertiser free weekly, and monthlies Newbury Business Today and Out & About.

"All our key production slots were full," Managing Director Adrian Martin said in a statement. "We've been contract printing for 30 years and, since the introduction of a Goss Universal press in 2005, that side of the business has expanded three-fold. So it was a logical step for us to increase our printing capacity still further."

The new Uniliner, scheduled to be in production next summer, will be configured as two four-high towers, two reelstands, and a 2:3:3 jaw folder. To best use the available space, Goss will install the press in the existing press hall at 90 degrees to the existing two-around Universal.

When fully commissioned, the new press will provide the flexibility of being run independently or in combination with the Universal to produce full-color tabloids of up to 160 pages.
