By: E&P Staff It's enough comic strips to choke a cat. Bill the Cat, that is.
Idea & Design Works (IDW) will publish the complete collection of Berkeley Breathed's beloved comic strip "Bloom County" in a five-volume series.
IDW first announced the project, "The Bloom County Library," in February, and the first volume, which will be officially released October 29, is now available for pre-order at Amazon.com.
"Fans have pestered me for years," Breathed said in a statement in February, "for this ultimate Bloom County collection in that polite, respectful badgering way that only fans can manage. Thank God I can now tell them something better than just 'please remove your tent from my lawn.' I can say, 'It's coming!'"
"Bloom County," syndicated by the Washington Post Writers Group, debuted on Dec. 8, 1980. It examined modern American politics and culture through the prism of a unique small town. Breathed won the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning for his work before ending the strip in 1989 at the height of its popularity. The strip's most famous character, Opus the Penguin, became the subject of two Sunday-only spin-off strips.
