By: E&P Staff The Center for Public Integrity has added two editors and three senior journalists -- including some with newspaper backgrounds.
CPI said the new members of its editorial team "will expand the center's scope of investigative journalism and incorporate more use of multimedia resources."
The new managing editor is Gordon Witkin, who joins CPI after a 26-year career at U.S. News & World Report; and the new data editor is David Donald, who previously served as the training director at Investigative Reporters and Editors and the National Institute for Computer Assisted Reporting.
Michael Zuckerman, CPI's new project director for the "Land Use Accountability Project," has a 30-year journalism career in radio and newspapers. As one of the original founders of USA Today, Zuckerman was a rewrite desk chief, projects editor, Washington editor, foreign editor, and a senior correspondent working on investigative stories.
And two new CPI staff writers include Marianne Lavelle, previously a senior writer at U.S. News & World Report; and Kristen Lombardi, who has worked for The Village Voice and The Boston Phoenix.
David E. Kaplan, who joined CPI in April, has been named the center's overall editorial director. He also remains director of the center's International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.
