By: E&P Staff Five newspapers in three states recently switched to computer-to-plate output using products from Eastman Kodak, Rochester, N.Y.

In Ohio, the 9,878-circulation Bryan Times and smaller Northwest Signal, in Napoleon, printed Monday through Saturday at the same facility, installed a Kodak Trendsetter News 50 thermal platesetter, Kodak PF-N non-process plates, Kodak Prinergy Evo workflow system, and Kodak Preps imposition software. The newspapers are members of the PAGE cooperative buying association.

The Tribune Chronicle, Ogden Newspapers' 29,364-circulation daily in Warren, Ohio, purchased a Kodak Trendsetter News 70, Prinergy Evo system and Preps.

"We're achieving higher quality and more consistent output since switching to Kodak's solutions," General Manager Len Blose said in a statement, also citing greater flexibility and creativity allowed by decreased production time.

Another Ogden daily, the 31,658-circulation Altoona (Pa.) Mirror switched from imagesetters to a Trendsetter News 70, along with Kodak NS digital newspaper plates, Prinergy Evo workflow, and Preps imposition.

Epoch Press in Paterson, N.J., which prints a number of broadsheet and tabloid newspapers, as well as booklets, books, real estate and auto magazines, supermarket flyers and coupons, added a third Trendsetter 800 III platesetter to support growth of its commercial sheetfed business.
