By: E&P Staff John Mead Flanagin, 45, has been elected chairman of the family-owned Times Publishing Co. in Erie, Pa., which publishes the Erie Times-News and alternative papers in Louisville, Ky., and Cleveland, Ohio.
Flanagin, 45, succeeds Edward M. Mead who had served as chairman of the board since November 1, 1996. Mead remains chairman emeritus and a board member.
Flanagin, a fourth-generation Mead family member, is the son of Mary Mead Flanagin of Winnetka, Illinois and the late Neil Flanagin. He is the great-grandson of John J. Mead Sr., who founded the company on April 12, 1888.
Flanagin is an investment analyst with Chicago-based First Analysis Corp., where he coordinates hedge fund research, and has responsibility for marketing communications for the firm's private capital funds.
Before o joining First Analysis in 2000, he was executive director of the National Strategy Forum, a foreign policy and national security research institution. He has previously worked for the Washington Monthly, and the Wilson Quarterly.
He lives in Wilmette, Illinois with his wife Annette and their two children Jake and Kate.
