By: E&P Staff Citing "continuing and unprecedented rise in raw material, transportation and energy costs," Flint Group, Plymouth, Mich., today announced ink price increases with effect from Oct. 1.
News ink will rise 6%, according to the company, which also raised ink prices for sheetfed 5%-7%, gravure 10%, publication heatset 8%, and packaging up to 12%.
Flint Group North America President Bill Miller said in a statement that greater worldwide consumption of petroleum and its derivatives, along with limited refinery capacity, are key drivers of raw materials cost. Other contributors, he said, are China's recent closures of chemical operations thought to be polluting air and water and the end of refunds of its value added tax - both of which actions affect ink industry raw materials, intermediates and chemicals.
Flint Group said its representatives will contact customers with more specifics in the next two weeks.
