By: E&P Staff Florida's Collier County Commission unanimously decided today to reconsider the Naples Daily News rezoning request, which it denied earlier this month.
A decision is expected at the five-member commission's next meeting, Oct. 24. The E. W. Scripps paper chose the location to erect a new headquarters. It had looked outside the county for a suitable site.
The rezoning request was turned down in a 4-to-1 vote, but one commissioner said he voted in error and supported reconsideration of the matter, according to the newspaper. Commissioner Tom Hennning said he mistakenly thought the county code would not permit a building taller than 35 feet. The newspaper's new pressroom would rise 75 feet.
Henning's vote is important because a super-majority of four is required for rezoning.
