By: Joe Strupp Taking a page from the American Society of Newspaper Editors, which plans to remove the "paper" from its name next month, the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors has already done it.
Gil Thelen, former editor of The Tampa Tribune and current FSNE executive director, said in a release that the change to Florida Society of News Editors occurred via a unanimous board vote.
"The name change recognizes the growing importance of online news organizations and bloggers," Thelen wrote in the release.
Added FSNE president Mark Tomasik, "The FSNE renaming will be followed by an aggressive effort to recruit blogger, online and television members."
FSNE directors said the change "will help FSNE remain a viable organization that serves Florida journalists and their readers through its training programs, advocacy on open government laws, and partnerships with news organizations."
