By: E&P Staff In response to yesterday?s news that the Los Angeles Times editor Dean Baquet is leaving the paper, the L.A.-based Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights has launched a campaign titled ?Take Back Our Newspaper.?

The nonprofit group is asking subscribers of the newspaper to send a fax to the paper sayign that if the projected newsroom cuts are not stopped they will cancel their subscriptions by Jan. 1.

In a statement, the FTCR calls for the Times? owner, the Tribune Co., to reinstate Baquet, stop newsroom cuts, and focus on the quality of its news coverage, or sell the paper to local owners who are willing to uphold these requests.

?Baquet was seen as the last line of defense for the newspaper?s editorial integrity,? Jamie Court, president of the FTCR, said in a statement.

?It?s time for subscribers of the Los Angeles Times to unite and take their newspaper back,? said the FTCR statement.
