By: E&P Staff The founder of
CareerBuilder.com is striking out on his own. Rob McGovern, the former CEO of the recruitment site now owned by Gannett, Knight Ridder, and Tribune, launched competing site
mkt10 on Tuesday.
The idea is that mkt10 matches employers searching to fill high-level positions with top performers. "You have to throw away the concept of searching for a job," McGovern told
TheDeal.com, which reported the story on Tuesday. "People who are employed don't do that. We replaced searching with this matching concept."
The McLean, Va.-based company requires applicants to fill out profiles and then puts them in touch with the appropriate company. Not unlike a headhunter firm, if the pairing is successful, the employer then pays mkt10 $2,000.
Nicola Worrall, director of human resources at Input who is involved in a test run with mkt10, told the Deal, "Using the more familiar job boards that are out there, we've been getting bombarded with huge volumes of resumes, and they are most of the time not a very good match. A lot of the time you get a sense the applicants haven't read the job descriptions."
