Former 'Daily Calumet' Publisher Robert C. Anderson Dies At 80

By: E&P Staff Robert C. Anderson, the former publisher of The Daily Calumet in Chicago's southeast suburbs, has died. He was 80.

The SouthtownStar reported Sunday in an obituary by staff writer Shenequa A. Golding that Anderson died Friday from cancer.

Survivors include his daughter Paula Carlson, a SouthtownStar editor.

A graduate of the University of Chicago and Northwestern University graduate school, Anderson began his career working for the old South Side News and the Courier Community Newspapers in Chicago.

After serving in the Army, began work for the old Crown Point (Ind.) Register. He worked at the Lansing (Ill.) Journal as a salesman and was later named its editor. He retired in 1985 as publisher of the Journal Newspaper Group, The Calumet Day and The Daily Calumet.

He as vice president of the Illinois Press Association, and on the board of the Illinois Press Foundation.; I really was."

In addition to his daughter, Anderson is survived by his wife Mildred; another daughter, Janet Meilner; a son, David; a brother, Richard; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
