Former 'Dallas Observer' Publisher Draper Named Creative Loafing Sales Chief

By: E&P Staff Alison Draper, the former Dallas Observer publisher who relaunched The Dallas Morning News' youth-oriented Quick as a weekly, was named vice president and chief sales officer of the Creative Loafing chain of alternative weeklies.

Draper will report to Creative Loafing CEO Marty Petty and will be based in Chicago where the chain publishes the Chicago Reader.

"To get a pro like Alison on our executive team speaks to the serious investment we are making to build these great brands," Petty said in a statement.

Since 2008, Draper has headed the arts and entertainment advertising category for the Morning News. She joined the paper in 2006 as publisher of Quick.

Draper was publisher of the Dallas Observer, the alt-paper owned by Village Voice Media, between 2001 and 2006.

"We're all aware of the decline in the influence of daily newspapers and in their circulation and advertising sales," Draper said in a statement. "I'm convinced that Creative Loafing's newspapers and Web sites can attract the readers and serve the advertisers who find daily newspapers irrelevant."
