By: Joe Strupp James O'Shea, the former editor of The Los Angeles Times who left last year, in part, over disagreements about cost cutting, is one of four spring fellows announced by The Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard University.
His topic of study: conflicts between newspaper editors and owners.
Other fellows for the spring 2009 semester include: Maralee Schwartz, a former editor and reporter at The Washington Post who will focus on non-profit journalism; Mitchell Stephens, professor of journalism and mass communications at New York University, who will study priorities of major news organizations; and Michael Traugott, professor of communication studies at the University of Michigan, who will research mass media impact on American politics.
"Our fellows and visiting faculty this semester reflect the cutting edge of new media, traditional journalism and scholarship, and will offer Harvard students a rich resource in multiple dimensions," Alex S. Jones, Shorenstein Center director, said in a statement.
