News President Edward W. Scudder died Nov. 27 at his home in Lake Placid, N.Y. He was 91. Scudder "lived primarily in Delray Beach, Fla.," according to the Newark
Star-Ledger.
Scudder, who began work in the
News mailroom in 1935, co-owned the paper with his brother, Richard, who served as publisher and who resides in Atlantic Highlands, N.J. Founded by their grandfather in 1883, the Scudders sold the
News in 1970 to Media General, which closed it in 1972. The Scudders also founded radio owner and operator Newark Broadcasting Co.
