Former Newsday Circ VP Pleads Guilty To Fraud

Posted
By: E&P Staff Newsday's former vice president of circulation Robert Brennan has secretly pleaded guilty to mail fraud and income tax evasion, charges involving the paper's circulation scandal in 2004.

The newspaper reports today that Brennan is the first Newsday executive to plead guilty in the federal investigation underway in the U.S. District Court in Brooklyn.

Because Brennan is cooperating with the investigation, prosecutors are expected to ask for leniency in the sentencing process.

A Newsday spokeswoman told the paper that Brennan was fired in 2004 in connection with circulation fraud and that Newsday and its parent company Tribune are fully cooperating with the authorities.

The income tax evasion charge involves a $30,000 bonus check that Brennan received as a kickback, Newsday reported.
