When Rollie Hyde applied for his first newspaper job at the Anadarko Daily News near his hometown of Binger, Okla., he once admitted, “I wasn’t positive I could tell the difference between a news story and an ad.”
But it didn’t take him long to distinguished between the two and, over a career that spanned almost six decades, Hyde became a top advertising salesman and ad managers for several major chains, served as publisher of the Plainview Herald for 15 years, and for the past eight years was one of the nation’s leading newspaper brokers.
Hyde, 76, died at 12:59 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, in Oklahoma City, Okla., following a 2 1/2-month illness.
