Former Publisher James Hoffman Dies at 83

By: James Hoffman, former publisher of newspapers in West Virginia and Maine, has died. He was 83.

The Inter-Mountain in Elkins reported Thursday that Hoffman died Wednesday. A cause of death wasn't given.

Hoffman retired from The Inter-Mountain in May 2003 after serving as publisher for 15 years.

The Elkins native's newspaper career began and ended in his hometown and covered more than 50 years.

Hoffman had also served as publisher of the Kennebec Journal in Augusta, Maine, and the Dominion Post in Morgantown.

He also had worked for The Herald-Dispatch in Huntington and was a past president the West Virginia Press Association's board of directors.

Hoffman is survived by his wife Aletha, and two children.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
