Charles Utter, longtime editor and co-publisher of the Westerly (R.I.) Sun has died. He was 92.
The Sun reports that Utter died Oct. 13 at the Westerly Nursing Home.
He was editor and co-publisher for more than a half century.
Utter and his brother became co-publishers after their uncle retired. The brothers retired in 1991.
A pilot during World War II who completed 30 missions before being discharged in October 1945, Utter was fond of recalling that his newspaper, which then came out Sunday afternoons, was the first U.S. publication to report the Dec. 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor attacks.
