By: The Fort Collins Coloradoan says its newspaper will be printed and delivered by the Denver Newspaper Agency starting May 12, resulting in 48 layoffs at the Coloradoan.
Coloradoan President and Publisher Kim Roegner announced the move Wednesday.
The Denver Newspaper Agency presses, which also print The Denver Post, are about 50 miles from Fort Collins. Roegner says the speed of those presses, installed in 2006, will allow the Coloradoan to keep its current news and delivery deadlines.
The Denver Newspaper Agency handles printing, distribution and business operations for The Post. It did the same for the Rocky Mountain News under a joint operating agreement until the News folded on Feb. 27.
The Coloradoan is owned by Gannett Co., the nation's largest newspaper chain.
