By: (AP) The companies that own the city's two daily newspapers said Monday they were extending until 2050 their agreement that combines the papers' advertising, production, and circulation departments.
The agreement between Knight Ridder, owner of
The News-Sentinel, and the Journal Gazette Co., owner of
The Journal Gazette, governs the partnership and operation of Fort Wayne Newspapers.
The newsrooms of the two papers are independently managed and will maintain separate news and editorial sections.
Under the new pact, Knight Ridder will increase its share of the partnership from 55% to 75% with the Journal Gazette Co. owning the remaining 25%.
Mary Jacobus, publisher of
The News-Sentinel and president and CEO of Fort Wayne Newspapers, said all other provisions of the agreement would remain in place. The agreement had been set to expire in 2020.
The
Journal Gazette has a daily circulation of 59,324 daily and a Sunday circulation of 130,215. The
News-Sentinel, with a daily circulation of 45,640, will publish afternoons every day except Sundays.
